From Granny Scarlett's Kitchen: Peanut Butter Shortbread Cookies for Dogs
Peanut butter is an absolute favorite around here, and no one bakes better than a loving granny!
These are fun to do with the kiddos on a Sunday afternoon. Who doesn't love a reason to use their favorite cookie cutters.
So just in time for the holidays, here are our favorite Peanut Butter Shortbreads!
While this recipe is safe for people to eat, they taste rather bland to our tastebuds. Therefore, I recommend whipping up a second batch with some sugar added for yourself!
Be careful with these, as they can burn easily!
Peanut Butter Shortbread Cookies for Dogs
Ingredients:
- 2 cups unbleached flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup peanut butter (make sure it does NOT contain Xylitol which is toxic to dogs)
- 3/4 cup milk
Directions:
- Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl, add the peanut butter and mix in the flour until you can't mix it in anymore.
- Add the milk. Knead the mixture for 2 minutes or until well mixed and forms a soft ball. If the mix is too dry, add more milk, if it is too sticky, dust it with more flour.
- Roll out between 1/4 and 1/2-inch thick and cut out with doggie-themed cookie cutters.
- Transfer to a baking sheet covered in parchment.
- Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for around 15 minutes, depending on how thick you rolled them and how big you made them. They should just be a light brown color. These burn very quickly, so don't leave them alone and take them out when lightly browned.
- Be sure to cool the cookies completely before giving them to your dog. For an added holiday treat, the cookies can be dipped into melted carob chips and then cooled completely.
